SKBJ Players at KLCA Open

KLCA Chess Open had started yesterday. The first round was played at around 5:00 pm, about an hour delay from its schedule. There are two categories - Open for all chess players with FIDE rating of 2000 or above and Challengers for below 2000 rating. 

Three SKBJ pupils are participating in the tournament in Challengers category. They are Fikri Saleh of 6 Dedali, Affan Amrish Mohd Jalani of 5 Keranji and Anis Fariha Saleh of 4 Dedali. 68 players are playing in the Challengers section.


Round 2: Fikri won againts a promising Malaysian young talent, Amier Hamzah Mohd Zuhri whose latest national rating is 1350. He is just 7 years old.

In Round 3, Fikri played againts Agustinus playing white on Table 3. He used French Defense opening. He won the game and scored 3 full points.


Also seen in the above picture, Muhd Faris Aminuddin former SKBJ chess player facing Sarika Subramaniam. Both drew. A very good start for him since he won in Round 1. 

Round 2: Affan (right) playing againts Fernandez, Michael Howard. He is, if not mistakenly, the brother of Singaporean young FM of Fernandez, Daniel Howard who is playing in the Open category. (0-1)

Round 2: Anis (right)  playing white won againts Khaw Yew Tong.



In Round 3, Anis faced Latifah Syamimi on Table 21 playing white.  .. Kh5 37.Kh3 Rf4 38.Re8 is not the best move. She should move g4+. She lost the game due to lacking in the endgame.


Round 1 : Affan (right) lost to Roshan Ajeet, one of Selangor Under 12 player at MSSM Melaka last June.


Round 1: Anis (left) lost againts older player named Boey Jin Huey playing black. The young girl wearing red jacket is a player from Indonesia named Shieta Nyimas Prima whose age is 7 years old.

2008 National Juniors Championship -


The 9-round National Juniors Championship started today. It is held at Pearl Point Shopping complex located in Jalan Kelang Lama. The championship is divided into two categories - Boys and Girls. 58 players participated in the Boys category whereas just 24 players competing in the Girls section.

Five SKBJ boy players playing in the Boys category while only two SKBJ girl players are participating. Leading the boys, Fikri ranked 25th started off victoriously beating his opponent. But he was defeated in the second round by a 1600-rated player. Being defeated by higher opponents in the first round, Aminur, Irfan and Affan thrashed their respective opponents in the second round. Ihsan, the younger brother of Irfan, is the only SKBJ boy player who has not won any game in the first two rounds.

Meanwhile, in the Girls category, Anis Fariha won her second round game againts unrated player after resigned to the fourth seeded in the first round. Still being tired from the long journey to Kelantan with her family, Nur Faqehah lost to the third seeded in the first round and an unseeded player in the second round. 

Two former SKBJ chess players also participated in the 5-day tournament. They are Faris and her younger sister, Nur Farihah.  

Hopefully, all SKBJ chess players will play excellently tomorrow in the third and fourth round. 


In the Boys category, only 12 players left with the perfect score. Two top players are missing from the list where the upsets happened. Justin Ong, the second seed, was upset in the second round while Muhd Tariq, the fourth seed, was upset in the first round by Nabil Fikri. Meanwhile, in the Girls category, only 5 players left with the perfect score.

SKBJ Chess Club Players at INTEC UiTM Chess Open

On 23rd November 2008, several SKBJ Chess Club players had participated in the INTEC UiTM Chess Open held at Dewan Cemara, Section 18, Shah Alam. They were among more than 100 participants. They faced older opponents mostly while sometimes they met among each other. Below are some of their pictures while playing their chess games.


Affan was cracking his head facing againts his schoolmate Fikri in one of their rounds.

Aina Farzana, MSSD Petaling Perdana chess player, was serious thinking her strategy and plan againts much older opponent.

Aminur Nirza, one of next year SKBJ anchor chess player, playing black was in deep thinking how to outplay his opponent.

After meeting againts her opponent's brother in the first round, she played white in the last round facing Sarika Subramaniam from Cameron Highlands, Pahang.

Nur Faqihah, playing black was facing the same opponent who played againts her school team mate, Aina.

Aina and Aminur played againts older opponent side by side.

Simultaneous Games at Desa Subang Permai Tournament

Below are some simultaneous games during the Desa Subang Permai tournament captured. Normally, a chess expert player like a GM will play againts a number of players simultaneously. Among top player who often play simultaneous chess is Susan Polgar, her blog, who currently hold 4 world records for a simultaneous chess exhibition. In Malaysia, the record holder for simultaneous chess exhibition is held by CM Collin Madhavan.










Pertandingan Catur Desa Subang Permai (DSP)

Hari ini satu pertandingan catur telah di adakan di Dewan Masjid At-Taqwa, Desa Subang Permai, Shah Alam. Pertandingan ini adalah anjuran Biro Pendidikan Masjid tersebut bersama Biro IT Subang Permai dengan kerjasama Insofar Chess Academy. 

Satu perkembangan yang menarik di mana gabungan masjid dan sukar catur dianggap jarang berlaku di negara ini. Pertandingan tersebut merupakan satu program pengisian waktu cuti sekolah yang amat bermanafaat di samping mempromosi sukan catur di kalangan penduduk Desa Subang Permai. Di harap lebih banyak program seumpama ini yang diadakan. Ia juga satu kaedah untuk menggalakkan generasi muda datang ke masjid dan peranan masjid dapat diperluaskan.

Pengerusi Persatuan Penduduk Subang Permai, Tuan Haji Jaafar sedang menyampaikan ucapan. Di antara isi kandungan dan intipati ucapan beliau :

- zaman kanak-kanak dan remaja merupakan zaman paling gemilang dan perlu dimanafaatkan sebaik mungkin

- jadilah anak-anak soleh dan solehah 

- jaga solat sewaktu cuti sekolah

Tuan Haji Safruddin menyampaikan hadiah kepada juara kategori Bawah 11 tahun, Aminur Nirza Azrin.

Tuan Haji Jaafar menyampaikan hadiah kepada juara kategori Bawah 15 tahun, Faris Aminuddin.





Tenaga pengajar Insofar Chess Academy, Cikgu Mat Zaki Yeop dan Cikgu Firdaus, mengadakan Simultaneous Chess dengan 10 orang peserta. Rekod "Simul Chess" teramai di negara ini dipegang oleh CM Collin Madhavan.

Kelas catur juga bakal diadakan di masjid tersebut yang akan dikendalikan oleh Insofar Chess Academy. Kepada anak-anak penduduk Desa Subang Permai yang berminat untuk menyertai bolehlah mendaftar. Sila ke laman Insofar Chess Academy untuk mendaftar secara online.

TAHNIAH kepada semua yang telah menjayakan program tersebut terutamanya pasangan Cikgu Rosimah Mohd, Guru Penasihat Kelab Catur SKBJ,  dan Encik Aminuddin yang tidak jemu-jemu mempromosi dan menggalakkan sukan catur. Semoga program seperti ini akan kerap diadakan di masa hadapan.

December 2008 is another chess month. There is back-to-back quality chess tournaments. Great for the school children to fill up their time during the holidays.

SKBJ Chess Players at RT OUG Agegroup Chess Tournament


Fikri was 5th in the primary school (Under 12) category after scoring 5 points in the tournament.

Anis Fariha was 4th for Best Five Under 10.


Other SKBJ students who participated in the tournament were Aminur Nirza Azrin (3 points), Nur Faqihah Aminuddin (3 points) and Muhd Faqih Aminuddin (2 and 1/2 points)

It was a very unique scenario in the Rukun Tetangga OUG Agegroup Chess Tournament held at Dewan MCA Cawangan OUG. 14 Malays, 18 Indians and 24 Chinese chess players participated in the tournament. It was really a muhibbah environment and reflects the perpaduan. Even Mr Segara from the local council had cited two pantuns during his speech. Hopefully, RT OUG will organize more chess tournaments in the future.
