Venue: 1st Floor, Ole Ole Shopping Centre, Seksyen 18, 40200 Shah Alam
Format: 25 minutes per player/ Swiss system/ 6 rounds

Entry Fees:
Open: from Shah Alam (RM15), Others (RM20)
Under 12: from Shah Alam (RM10), Others (RM15)

• Only the first 100 entries will be accepted

2008 National Juniors Championship -

The 9-round National Juniors Championship started today. It is held at Pearl Point Shopping complex located in Jalan Kelang Lama. The championship is divided into two categories - Boys and Girls. 58 players participated in the Boys category whereas just 24 players competing in the Girls section.

Five SKBJ boy players playing in the Boys category while only two SKBJ girl players are participating. Leading the boys, Fikri ranked 25th started off victoriously beating his opponent. But he was defeated in the second round by a 1600-rated player. Being defeated by higher opponents in the first round, Aminur, Irfan and Affan thrashed their respective opponents in the second round. Ihsan, the younger brother of Irfan, is the only SKBJ boy player who has not won any game in the first two rounds.

Meanwhile, in the Girls category, Anis Fariha won her second round game againts unrated player after resigned to the fourth seeded in the first round. Still being tired from the long journey to Kelantan with her family, Nur Faqehah lost to the third seeded in the first round and an unseeded player in the second round. 

Two former SKBJ chess players also participated in the 5-day tournament. They are Faris and her younger sister, Nur Farihah.  

Hopefully, all SKBJ chess players will play excellently tomorrow in the third and fourth round. 

In the Boys category, only 12 players left with the perfect score. Two top players are missing from the list where the upsets happened. Justin Ong, the second seed, was upset in the second round while Muhd Tariq, the fourth seed, was upset in the first round by Nabil Fikri. Meanwhile, in the Girls category, only 5 players left with the perfect score.

SKBJ Chess Club Players at INTEC UiTM Chess Open

On 23rd November 2008, several SKBJ Chess Club players had participated in the INTEC UiTM Chess Open held at Dewan Cemara, Section 18, Shah Alam. They were among more than 100 participants. They faced older opponents mostly while sometimes they met among each other. Below are some of their pictures while playing their chess games.

Affan was cracking his head facing againts his schoolmate Fikri in one of their rounds.

Aina Farzana, MSSD Petaling Perdana chess player, was serious thinking her strategy and plan againts much older opponent.

Aminur Nirza, one of next year SKBJ anchor chess player, playing black was in deep thinking how to outplay his opponent.

After meeting againts her opponent's brother in the first round, she played white in the last round facing Sarika Subramaniam from Cameron Highlands, Pahang.

Nur Faqihah, playing black was facing the same opponent who played againts her school team mate, Aina.

Aina and Aminur played againts older opponent side by side.

Seramai 10 orang pemain catur SKBJ telah menyertai Pertandingan Catur Kuala Langat yang diadakan pada Ahad, 12 Oktober 2008 di Dewan AIM Point Plaza, Bandar Sungai Emas Banting. Mereka adalah  :

Fikri dan Muhd Irfan mendapat 5 mata. Fikri telah terlepas peluang untuk mendapat tempat ke 3 setelah tewas kepada juara kategori Bawah 12 Tahun di pusingan terakhir. Di pusingan pertama, beliau telah tewas kepada rakan sepasukan iaitu Aina Farzana. Walaupun mereka berdua mendapat 5 mata, tetapi masih tidak cukup untuk berjaya mendapat tempat sepuluh pemain terbaik.

Adik Irfan, Muhd Ihsan berjaya memenangi pusingan terakhir untuk mengumpul 4 1/2 mata. Empat pemain catur SKBJ yang lain telah berjaya mendapat 4 mata iaitu  Nur Faqihah, Aminur, Muhd Mukri dan Aina Farzana. Aminur, walaupun berjaya memenangi tiga pusingan pertama berturut-turut termasuk ke atas Puteri Munajjah, tetapi gagal meneruskan momentum setelah tewas kepada Nur Najiha di pusingan ke empat.

Sementara itu Affan, Anis Fariha dan Muhd Faqih, pelajar pra-sekolah SKBJ, berjaya mendapat 3 kemenangan. Pertandingan catur yang kompetitif sebegini sangat bagus kepada pemain-pemain catur SKBJ untuk mengungguli sirkit catur tempatan di masa akan datang terutamanya Pertandingan Catur Peringkat Umur Kebangsaan pada tahun hadapan.

Enam dari mereka berjaya meningkatkan rating di pertandingan ini terutamanya Irfan dan Faqihah. TERUSKAN USAHA INI DENGAN BERMAIN CEMERLANG DI PERTANDINGAN-PERTANDINGAN AKAN DATANG! 

Kejohanan Catur Tertutup SKBJ - 20 September 2008

Satu kejohanan catur tertutup anjuran Kelab Catur SKBJ telah berjaya diadakan pada hari Sabtu, 20 September 2008. Seramai 70 orang murid-murid SKBJ telah menyertai kejohanan tersebut yang diadakan di kantin sekolah. Pertandingan ini dijalankan mengikut Sistem Swiss enam pusingan. Cikgu Salihin Ahmad dari Kelang telah dilantik menjadi arbiter.

Kejohanan ini bertujuan untuk mendedahkan murid-murid SKBJ yang sebahagian besarnya tidak pernah menyertai sebarang pertandingan catur. Selain itu ia juga menjadi satu platform untuk membentuk pemain pelapis bagi mewakili sekolah ke pertandingan catur peringkat daerah dan negeri.

TAHNIAH dan SYABAS kepada semua yang terlibat dalam menjayakan program ini terutamanya Cg Rosimah Mohamad yang bertungkus lumus untuk menjayakan kejohanan catur yang boleh meransang minda murid-murid SKBJ.

Insofar Chess Academy @Ampac, Bangi Tournament - 10 August 2008

SKBJ Chess Club players who are also Shah Alam Insofar Chess Academy students were participating in the Insofar Chess Tournament held at AMPAC, Bangi on Sunday 10 August 2008. Proudly enough that they had shown dominance in the tournament. Their regular chess class, practice and chess tournaments participation have helped them in defeating their opponents. 

Fikri won all his 5 games and was the champion. Faqihah lost only a game to score 4 points whereas both Aminur and Anis Fariha lost a game and draw a game and have 3 and a 1/2 points. Faqih, a SKBJ pre-school student and future SKBJ chess player prospect, had impressed the audience by winning 2 games. Meanwhile, Faqih's elder sister Farihah, former SKBJ chess player, managed to win 3 games and drew 2 games to score 4 points.

Aminur Beats Fikri To Be Insofar Shah Alam Champion

On 29 Jun 2008, Shah Alam Insofar Chess Academy held a chess tournament at Teacher's Z Tuition Center, Bukit Jelutong. Aminur had an upset win over Fikri who many expected to be the champion. In chess, age and experience are not the main factors to determine the winning. 

Good for Aminur who has practiced hard and participated regularly in chess tournament. Fikri has to less focus on chess due to the UPSR exam he will sit this year (2008). So, anything can happen in chess. Anyone who learn and practice hard in chess will be successful and be champion.
